Beginning of 2012, I made a conscious decision that I want my children to be homeschooled. After one year I'm on  that stage wondering if I made the right decision...

Why homeschool?

When work is like play

I am working on a startup business at the moment while homeschooling my kids. I now love the feeling of being able to create something and playing around with it. It's not all fun and games, there are times I don't feel like working on my website, or opening my emails or clicking on "learn more" links so I could understand how the heck Google Analytics work.. I'm really not techy, but I have a passion to learn. It is my wish my children will do the same or better when it comes to love for creativity and entrepreneurship.

My kids would distract me 5 times every hour... so that's like every 12 minutes on average. They would ask me to play a movie for them, for something to eat, for a definition or spelling of a word, for clarification in the workbook exercise I've just given them, if they can take a break. Oh and the list goes on.

So it just dawned on me as I write this, now that I've written down my structured work WEEK, maybe now I should write down my structured work DAY - so that my kids can see when they can ask me questions, that they have to wait a whole hour before they ask for my attention again. Kind of like when you're playing a hidden object game and you want to use the hint option but you have to wait another 30 minutes once you've used up your 3 hints in a row...

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
I'm learning to break things down into smaller pieces. With 4 kids to homeschool, a startup business, ongoing businesses on the side and deadlines to meet, it can get overwhelming to the point of wanting to quit.

And with that I leave you with this Ted Talk video of Sir Ken Robinson that I came across from reading Penelope Trunk's blog this morning. He
makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.
